Who can donate?
- A resident of Ontario, Canada.
- Contributing on your own behalf using your own personal funds.
- To receive a rebate, you must be an eligible elector in Whitby as of voting day.
Town of Whitby Contribution Rebate Program
By-law #7585-19, under s. 88.11 of the Municipal Elections Act.
- Contributions of $25.00 or less receive no rebate.
- 75% rebate on the first $100, then 25% on anything above $100.01.
- Maximum rebate: $200.
- Eligible contributions are money given to a Whitby council candidate between when they file their nomination and when their campaign period ends.
- Rebates are processed after the compliance audit period closes, roughly 90+ days after the financial filing deadline.
- Candidates generally need to participate in the program for their donors to be eligible.
Contribution limits
- Up to $1,200 per candidate.
- Up to $5,000 total across all candidates in the same jurisdiction.
- Contributions over $25 cannot be cash. They must be traceable to the contributor, such as by cheque, e-transfer, or money order signed by the contributor.
